Food as medicine

This has become a strong focus of my practice. Tending to my own health, and learning how food directly creates our health or disease, has led me to study nutrition more deeply. Nutrition and lifestyle often get too little attention in conventional maternity care. I offer nourishment not as another set of rules but as a way of understanding what your body and your baby needs to thrive.

I'm especially drawn to the link between maternal health and fetal development: what is happening in your body, what is developing in your baby, which nutrients support both, and how can you make eating them delicious and simple. This is the heart of Nourish Foundations, my pregnancy nutrition course.

I love to travel and learn from birthworkers and traditions around the world. The world has been a generous and sometimes humbling teacher. Along the way I've gathered traditional postpartum soup recipes, new ways of supporting women in labour, and a few lessons in what not to do. I carry forward what resonates, and I value both contemporary clinical knowledge and the wisdom carried through generations.

Ama Midwifery is the expression of that evolving work: skilled, relationship-based care, thoughtful education and a deeper exploration of what helps women and babies thrive.

I have been a midwife for eight years. I've worked in hospitals across continuity and core models of care, and I've run my own homebirth practice. I am an endorsed, privately practicing midwife and educator. In caring for women through pregnancy, birth and postpartum, I have seen again and again the difference it makes when a woman is well supported.

I have a real love for the evidence: reading it, questioning it and sharing it in a way that leaves couples feeling truly informed. When you have the full picture, you can make the decisions that are right for you. So many choices come up in pregnancy, often in rushed appointments, and it's easy to feel overwhelmed. My hope is that you don’t walk into a decision without the knowledge you need.

I offer private midwifery care in person across the Northern Rivers, and Medicare-rebatable telehealth appointments Australia-wide. Alongside this, I run classes and courses on topics ranging from optimising nutrition to navigating the hospital system, all designed to help couples prepare for birth and life with a newborn.
